What It Is

Bitkub is a major Thai cryptocurrency exchange and the locally regulated route for turning crypto into baht. Foreigners can register: first-level verification asks for a passport valid for more than three months, a face scan and an NFC scan of the passport.

The constraint sits at the exit, not the entrance. Baht leave the platform only to a Thai bank account held in the same name as the Bitkub account; an account belonging to someone else cannot be used.

How It Works

You fund the account with crypto, sell it for baht on the exchange, then withdraw to your Thai bank account. From there the money behaves like any local balance — card payments, transfers, ATM withdrawals with a Thai card.

A Thai bank account is opened in person at a branch, and applicants on long-stay visas have better chances than visitors on a tourist visa. Until that account exists, this route cannot be completed.

How It Compares

Against 2Change, Senate Exchange and ExFM, all of which convert USDT into cash in Phuket with no local banking at all, Bitkub asks for the one thing a visitor usually lacks. What it offers in exchange is local regulation and exchange-level pricing rather than a negotiated rate.

Against Binance, the comparison has changed: Thai baht trading moved to Binance TH, where an account is also tied to Thai banking and where foreigners are asked for a visa valid for at least three months. For residents with a local account, Bitkub is the straightforward choice; for a two-week visitor, it is not a realistic option.
